Mike Purkey: There’s more than just seafood in Brunswick County – don’t miss these golf courses

To most, it’s the northernmost tip of Myrtle Beach’s Grand Strand, the famous stretch of shoreline that runs down part of the South Carolina coast. But to the locals, Brunswick County is North Carolina’s Golf Coast.

More than 35 courses are located in that county, which includes the barrier Brunswick Islands, sandwiched between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean.

There’s a good reason why PGA Tour players list Hilton Head Island as one of their favorite stops each year. The slow-down vibe, the abundance of good restaurants and plenty to do for the families means that the RBC Heritage gets a quality field every year. Not to mention that the players think Harbour Town Golf Links is one of the best courses they play all year.

Mike Purkey: 5 courses to play if you’re in Augusta for the Masters

Golfers of all stripes and abilities will flock to Augusta, Ga., this week to pay homage to the world’s best players at the Masters, held at one of the game’s shrines, Augusta National Golf Club.

Being that golf is infectious, it’s no surprise that some Masters watchers would like to play a little golf of their own either before or after trekking through azalea-lined Amen Corner each day.
